Small-Town Warmth in Hatton
With a population of under 800, Hatton is a cozy city where neighbors become friends and community involvement is a big part of life. Located just 35 miles from Grand Forks, Hatton is only a commute of about 45 minutes to big city business and entertainment, but it offers plenty of its own attractions.
A Community that Cares
Hatton is a neighborly city that places great emphasis on community connection and lending a helping hand to those in need. With city organizations such as the Hatton Community Club, the Hatton Helping Hands Food Pantry, the Hatton Prairie Village Loyalty Club, which raises money and hosts events to benefit the nursing home, and Prairie Roses, which hosts community projects such as dinners, blood drives, and fundraisers, citizens of Hatton join together to make their city better.
Other Hatton organizations include the American Legion Auxiliary, which helps to raise money for VA hospitals, and the Hatton Booster Club, which helps support Hatton and Northwood High School extracurricular activities.
Get Outside in Hatton
It’s easy to enjoy the great outdoors in Hatton. The Hatton Park District maintains two beautiful city parks which include baseball and softball fields, playgrounds, a campground, and organized community sports. Hatton also boasts a Beautification Organization, dedicated to making the city more beautiful. This includes projects such as planting trees and flowers and maintaining parks.
Hatton Community Places
Hatton is also home to great community spots, such as the Hatton Community Theater, which promotes theater and fine arts, and the Hatton Centennial Community Center, which hosts weddings, dances and receptions, reunions, and banquets.
Built in 1900, the stately manor was once home to one of the greatest pilots in history, and now serves as a museum to honor his memory.
Carl Ben Eielson is a gem in the history books of Hatton. In 1928, he piloted explorer Sir George Hubert Wilkins on a 2200 mile flight over the Arctic Ocean from Point Barrow, AK to Spitsberg, Norway. He later flew the same explorer to Antarctica, making him the first pilot ever to fly Antarctica. He was also the first pilot to land on floating ice and the first to fly airmail to Alaska.
Hatton Eielson Public School
Hatton has only one school, the Hatton Eielson Public School, where every student is someone special. Offering a full range of sports and after-school organizations, Hatton is a small school with a lot to offer.
