Grand Forks Public Schools serve over 7,200 students throughout Grand Forks and Grand Forks Air Force Base with 700 highly-qualified teachers and 400 support personnel. Within the district, there are two high schools, one alternative high school, four middle schools, 12 elementary schools, and one Head Start program. This outstanding district boasts a 96% attendance rate and test scores that well exceed the state and national averages. Additionally, its schools enjoy strong parent and community support, and over 65% of its teachers have obtained a master’s degree or higher.

High Schools

Grand Forks Public Schools offers three high school options. Central High and Red River High are traditional high schools zoned to specific parts of the community. Community High School is an alternative high school that offers a unique class schedule of two 3-hour classes per day, with a rotation of classes every 20 to 25 school days. Each student at Community High works independently and individually with their teacher to learn curriculum in a way that works for them. Central is a fully-accredited high school that provides plenty of extracurricular activities, like career education, service projects, and an athletic participation partnership with Central and Red River High schools.

Central High School

Central High serves primarily the northern community of Grand Forks, including rural students and all air base students. Currently, over 1,300 students are enrolled. Offerings by Central include college prep courses, field biology for advanced science students, driver’s education, college entrance exams, and industrial programs, such as mechanics, electricity, health care, child care, and graphic arts. Additionally, the school offers a well-rounded education that incorporates liberal arts that include music, drama, and speech, as well as five foreign language options, and a hefty list of extracurricular activities. Offered sports include cross country, football, golf, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, hockey, wrestling, baseball, softball, and track & field.

Red River High School

Red River High School serves primarily the southern community of Grand Forks. Currently, over 1150 students are enrolled. Academic offerings by Red River High include Advanced Placement classes, career and technical programs, such as mechanics, electricity, building trades, health careers, child care, food preparation, engineering, architecture, computer software and networking, marketing, and businesses, as well as fine arts that include music, drama, speech, and visual arts, and five foreign language options. Extracurricular activities include clubs and competitive programs. Offered sports include cross country, football, golf, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, hockey, wrestling, baseball, softball, and track & field.

Middle Schools

The three middle schools of Grand Forks are zoned to specific areas. Valley middle school is closely aligned with Central High’s attendance boundaries, serving the northern and rural community. South Middle serves the southwestern community, similar to Red River High. Schroeder Middle encompasses zoning areas from both Central and Red River, serving the southeastern portion of Grand Forks along the Red River.
